Bingo: The game where you have to check off the winning grids!
Bingo is a very old game. Its origin is not well defined. Some historians think that it has a Roman origin but Italian source for others. However, a game called "Beano", having characteristics quite similar to those of the current Bingo was very popular in some Italian villages in the XVIth century. Arrived in France, this game was played by the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie. When the Bingo came to the United States in 1929, Edwin S. Lowe, a toy seller in New York having heard somebody shouting mistakenly "bingo" instead of “beano” had perfected the game. He asked a professor of mathematics of the University of Columbia, Mr. Carl Lefflerto do the work. Leffler then increased the number of combinations on the grids in each Bingo card. And thanks to him, the Bingo counted more than 6,000 grids, in 1930.
In casinos, there are two kinds of Bingo: the one which is played with 75 numbers and the other one with 90 numbers. With the first kind which starts with a machine including 75 numbers, numbered from 1 to 75, the player has just need to pay attention on the outgoing numbers and to tick with a lot of precision the maximum of rows on cardboards marked out in squares which have 5 rows and 5 columns. Then he has to cross off outgoing numbers corresponding to the winning symbol. The last kind which is complicated enough requires filling a full row, either two filled rows or all the rows of a ticket filled on cards having each six tickets, including each three rows and nine columns. Once rows filled as needed, the player has to call out the word "Bingo!" which alerts other players and caller to stop the game. All wins are checked before the win is officially confirmed.
